What Do You Want To Be Remembered For?
What is your Legacy? What have you done in your lifetime that you will be remembered for?
What are your accomplishments? What are your failures? What have been your life lessons?
In writing about your life, you recognize your high points, low points, and your learning points! Writing about your life gives you the opportunity to reflect on your life and perhaps make necessary changes to the road you're currently on.
Does the thought of writing about your life sound like a daunting task? This book makes it easy!
Let me ask you this: If you were asked to write a story about your life... where would you start? Would you start at your birth then try to work through chronologically?
The problem with this is your mind doesn't work chronologically, it jumps from place to place. From one memory to the next. From the age of 15 to the age of 36, then back to the age of 22.
What you need is a way to organize your thoughts. That's exactly what this book does for you. It organizes your thoughts in a way that makes perfect sense.
Write it for your children... Write it for yourself!
Have people told you that you should write a book about your life? This is your chance to do just that!
Would you like to get some things down on paper for your children? No matter your age, no matter your children's age, there are things you want your children to know. Life lessons that you've learned that you can pass down to them. It might be family stories, or recipes... or a number of other things!
Dora wrote to her children and let them know how much having them in her life meant to her. She wrote to each of her children and reminded them of some of the fun things they had done together. Dora included photographs of herself with her children. Each of her 3 children received a hand bound book from Dora which told each of them why she loved them so much... and her children were so touched by this.
At Dora's funeral, each of her children told me how much they appreciated Dora's words and thanked me for giving her the opportunity to express those words to them.
What's in this book?
"The Road You've Traveled, How to Journal Your Life" is a step by step guide to writing about your life.
Ch 1 teaches you how to set up your journal to accommodate your thoughts jumping all over the place. You don't need any writing experience to utilize this process. You don't need a large amount of time set aside to do this. Little by little, every day, or whenever the mood hits you, it's up to you.
Ch 2 is Map Making. It teaches you how to draw maps in order to spark your memory to recall details to write about! You can use this process in so many different ways, from mapping your bedroom, your house, your neighborhood, and so much more!
Ch 3 is about the People in your life. (This is the chapter that Dora ran with!) You've had so many people throughout your life that have been important to you. This chapter gives you the opportunity to reflect on those people and teaches you how to recall details about your experiences with them.
Ch 4 is Your Daily Life, your daily routine through the years. The chores you did back then. The chores you do now. It even touches on how you've taught your children compared to how your parents taught you. It's about discipline, your morals, your toys (both then and now!). This chapter is about your education, your work, and so much more!
Ch 5 is Writing Prompts with 70 different questions to ask yourself, to think about, to write about. From what is your favorite food to your opinion of what happens to people when they die. This chapter will spark so many memories to write about, you will love it!
Ch 6 is Politics, World News, Religious Views, and You! The events going on around you that shaped you, perhaps one event was the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., the wars, write about your views on religion and how those views came to be.
Ch 7 is Technology and Entertainment. How has technology changed over your lifetime? For myself, I remember having party lines when I was young. When your telephone rang, it may or may not be for someone in your household. Because several neighbors used the same telephone line. Your ring might be a long then a short ring, then you knew to pick up the phone. Today, most everyone carries cell phones! What a difference!
This chapter also sparks your memory about what was going on throughout your life in the entertainment industry. The cost of movie tickets, who was popular and why. The different styles of music the generations have been through from pop to Vaudeville!
Ch 8, Publication Ideas, gives you the information you need to publish your book. Whether you're planning on doing a hand bound book like Dora did for her children, or want to go through mainstream publishing, it's all up to you and your vision for your work.
Ch 9 is The Future. What do you still have to accomplish in your life? What are your wishes and dreams for your children? and your grandchildren?
